2014 Tri-Series

The 2014 Tri-Series was hosted by the QPSRLA and was held on the Sunshine Coast from Monday 7 July to Friday 11 July.

Game One was played as a curtain raiser to the third State of Origin held at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday 9 July with the Queensland Police Service State Team playing against the New South Wales Police Force State Team.  New South Wales Police played a strong and quick game and went into the half time break with a 20 to nil lead.  Two quick tries to the Queensland side at the start of the second half gave hope of a fight back with the score at 20 to 12, however New South Wales was able to withstand the challenge and came away winners 38 to 12.  Queensland’s player’s player and winner of the Damien Leading Shield was Grant Miers.

Game Two was played at the Maroochydore Rugby League Club and saw the New South Wales Police meet the Affiliated States and Territories Team.  In a game with plenty of big hits and strong running, New South Wales secured the Tri-Series championship beating the Affiliated States and Territories 18 to 10.

Game Three was again played at the Maroochydore Rugby League Club and saw the Queensland Police Team meet the Affiliated States and Territories Team as the final round of the Tri-Series.  Starting strongly and still smarting from their defeat by New South Wales, the Queensland team went to the break with a 24 to nil lead.  Queensland continued with their game and finished the game 48 to 4.  Queensland’s player’s player was shared between Kurtis Ritchie and Jim Doyle.

At the conclusion of the final game, an Australian Police Team was announced with 6 members of the Queensland Police Team being named in the squad, these players are:-
