The combined South East Muddies, Brisbane Bulldogs and Southern Boars get ready for the charity game against the Clifton Wattles Reserve Grade Team.
An invitational Queensland Police Service Rugby League Team took on a Clifton Wattles Reserve Grade Team on Saturday March 1 as part of a Men Of League Charity Fundraiser. The QPS team, consisting of members from the South East Muddies, Brisbane Bulldogs and the Southern Boars were formed to participate in the fundraising day of rugby league out at the Wattles Rugby League Football Club at Clifton. Two special guests had been planned to participate in the game with Former Australian, Queensland and Bronco props Shane Webcke and Petero Civoniceva keen to have a run. It was planned for Shane to have a run with the Wattles side whilst Petero was to have a run with the QPS team, however commitments in Sydney prevented Petero lacing on the boots for the Police. Shane was able to attend and had a fine game for the Wattles, with some impressive hits up and tackling, showing that he has not lost too much speed or strength since retirement. Petero has promised that he will lace up the up the boots for next year’s game. The game was played in excellent spirits, with some great football from both teams. The Police Team held the lead at halftime and was able to protect the lead to come out winners at full time. It was a good hit out for the Police team with all players getting in preparation for the QPSRLA State Championships being held on the SunshineCoast at the end of March. The Police team gave up their time to travel to Clifton and participate in a game that was raising funds for the Men of League Charity. It was not the first time that a Queensland Police Rugby League team had been in Clifton, in 2011 the inaugural City Police Versus Country Police game was held to raise funds for local flood victims.
